Circus Animal Questions
Q. Does the Shrine Circus include animal acts?
A. Yes! You may see lions, tigers, bears, horses, dogs, chimpanzees, snakes, alligators, camels, and of course the Shrine Circus Elephants!
Q. Does the Shrine Circus take good care of its animals?
A. Absolutely! The Shrine Circus takes great pride in the care that our animals receive and the conservation efforts we take to ensure that our patrons continue to have the option of witnessing our beautiful circus animals. Our performances contain both domestic and exotic animals on a regular basis. We are proud that our circus has been a leader in animal care techniques and research. Our circus’ animal care standards exceed governmental regulation, and provide a harmonious haven in which humans and animals can live and work together. Our circus animals are spared the trials and dangers of fighting for survival in the wild.
Q. How are your animals trained?
A. Our training methods are based on positive reinforcement, such as food rewards and words of praise. The relationship between animals and humans is built on mutual respect, trust and affection.
Q. Can I ride an elephant?
A. Yes. There is plenty of time up to one-hour before the show and during intermission to purchase an elephant ride.
Q. Are the elephants happy in the circus?
A. Yes. In fact, studies have shown that elephants live longer travelling in circuses than they do in zoos or in the wild as they have a constant change of scenery that helps stimulate these intelligent animals. The exercise that they get from performing and giving elephant rides keeps them physically healthy and improves their longevity.
They are fed daily and watered at least 5 times a day. Their diet consists of grain, hay (which they have 24 hours a day), fresh fruits and vegetables. They are bathed daily and their toenails are trimmed once a month.
At home our elephants have 10 acres and a pond to play in when the weather permits. In bad weather they have a large indoor exercise area.
Our training methods are based on positive reinforcement, such as food rewards and words of praise. The relationship between animals and humans is built on mutual respect, trust and affection.
We are visited regularly by the United States Department of Agriculture, which carefully reviews our housing, feeding, housekeeping and ventilation practices. Of course, we have knowledgeable veterinarians in every city that will make a house call at the first sniffle or sneeze!

Q. How long has the Shrine Circus been performing?
A. Detroit’s Moslem Temple Shriners started the now worldwide Shrine Circus tradition right here in Detroit in 1906.
Q. What time do doors open?
A. Doors open one hour prior to show time.
Q. What type of venue does the Shrine Circus perform in?
A. In Detroit and many other cities, we play under the World’s Largest Circus Tents, a massive complex of imported Italian canvas that is comfortably heated and complete with all the amenities the Shrine Circus is famous for. Our big top tent allows us to perform in the pure European one-ring tradition that predates the oval multi-ring shows that have been adapted to suit modern sports complexes. Our facilities hold up to nearly 3,000 people, depending on local regulations and the intimate seating arrangement affords all patrons “The Best Seat in the House.” In other areas we play in arenas, theaters and similar venues conducive to intimate circus performances.
Q. Is there a charge for parking?
A. Most of our venues have a charge for parking. The price is nominal compared to most entertainment venues.
Q. Is the Shrine Circus handicap accessible?
A. Yes! There are plenty of wheelchair accessible seats available for all shows and there are ample accessible restrooms for your use.

Q. How do I place an order online?
A. If you wish to place your order online, click here to go to our ticketing page. You will be asked to create your Shrine Circus account and select a show date and time and your seat selection on the sales order from. Upon clicking next, you will be asked to complete a credit card authorization form. Once these forms are completed in their entirety, you will be taken to an order verification page. Please review this information carefully to be sure your order is true and accurate. Once you have verified your order, you will be taken to a confirmation screen letting you know your order was successfully submitted.
Q. When is the best time to buy tickets?
A. Early! Our Shrine Circus is so popular that we often sell out. We recommend that you make your purchase as soon as possible to avoid being disappointed in the event of a sell out. Also remember, early purchasers typically get to sit a little closer to the ring. Even though all the seats are excellent, closer is more thrilling!
Q. Can I order individual tickets from your online system?
A. Yes. You can order as few or as many tickets as you like.
Q. Can I request specific seats for my order?
A. Yes. You will be selecting the reserved seats. General admission seats are on a first come basis. Every effort will be made to give you the best available seat for the price and section you choose. Please keep in mind that due to the intimate nature and setting of our shows, all seats have premium views.
Q. How can I know where my seats are located?
A. Your order screen will show you the section, row and seat number of the reserved seats assigned to you.
Q. When do I get my tickets in the mail?
A. Tickets will be mailed two weeks prior to opening day. Tickets will then be mailed daily as orders are processed. No tickets will be mailed if ordered on-line less than one week prior to opening day – they will be held at the Shrine Circus Box Office for pick up during normal business hours. Overnight delivery is available for $35.00.
Q. When can I pick up my tickets from the box office?
A. Please allow up to three (3) business hours for your order to be ready for pick-up.
Q. Where is your box office located and what are the hours?
A. Our box office is located at the Hazel Park Raceway located off 10 Mile Road west of Dequindre. Please use the 10 Mile Road gate for easiest access. The Hazel Park Raceway is conveniently located off of I-696 or I-75 and there are plenty of signs to guide you. The box office is open 9am-7pm, seven days a week.
Q. Can I call the box office and expect to walk up to the box office minutes later to get my tickets?
A. Ummm, NO. In the past, this created general chaos in our box office and caused our otherwise mild mannered ticket manager to exhibit unpredictable impolite behavior. Please allow us three (3) business hours to courteously fill your order.
Q. How much are ticketing fees?
A. The Shriners want to ensure you receive the best customer experience possible at the best value available. In Detroit, we operate our own ticketing system and our box office is staffed by volunteers, so we are able to keep our ticketing charges relatively nominal – $1.00 per ticket surcharge (regardless of purchase location), plus $1.00 per ticket internet surcharge (internet only), and a $3.00 per order handling fee (which includes regular mailing or Will-Call Pick Up). Overnight mailing is also available for a premium charge of $35.00.
Group Sales Questions
Q. How do I purchase group tickets?
A. Groups of 20 or more are eligible to receive special group discount pricing on select seats. Download a Group Sales Order form by clicking here. Within one business day our Group Sales Department will contact you to confirm your request and seating availability which meets your group budget. Once confirmed, you will receive an email and/or fax confirming your group purchase order. Once the Shrine Circus has confirmed the order, your credit card will then be charged. If your requested show date/time is unavailable, you will be contacted via phone by a Group Sales Representative and offered another date/time. NOTE: Your credit card will NOT be charged until the Shrine Circus has confirmed seat availability.
Q. After I place my groups order, can I order additional tickets?
A. If an order has already been submitted & processed by our Ticketing Department, any additions to that order must be made as soon as possible. However, there is no guarantee that additional seats will available later, or, if they are available, they may not be near your previously purchased seats.
Q. Are there any other fees associated with the purchase of group tickets?
A. Yes, a $20 fee is applied to ALL group orders to cover shipping & handling, plus a $1 per ticket surcharge.
Q. How can I know where my seats are located?
A. A seating chart will be given to you with your ticket order to help you find your seats easily.

Q. I want to pay by credit card, how do I submit my payment?
A. If your order is placed with our call center, you may fax a completed credit card authorization form, a copy of your state issued ID, and a copy of the front and back of the credit card being used to (248) 557-4402. For your protection this is required for all group orders when paying by credit card.
Q. Is my credit card charged immediately once I submit a Group Sales order form?
A. No. The Shrine Circus will never charge your card until we can guarantee your seats. Normally, your card will be charged within two to three business days of receipt of authorization. If for some reason your requested show date/time is not available, you will be contacted via phone and offered another show date/time.
Q. What happens if my order is not paid by the deadline date?
A. Tickets that are not paid for by the payment deadline date will be released to the general public.
Q. What is the cancellation policy?
A. An order may be cancelled at any time before payment is made. Once payment has been made, there are no refunds or exchanges on tickets.
Q. What is the deadline to place a group sales order?
A. Three weeks prior to the show opening.
Q. What is your credit card authorization policy?
A. All credit card information provided must be true and accurate. We request that patrons complete the credit card authorization form in its entirety to ensure proper processing of the order. Patrons are asked to fax a copy of their state ID along with a copy of the front and back of the credit card (signature must be on signature panel) being used to (248)557-4402.
Q. What is your order processing policy?
A. Ticket orders are processed in the order in which payment is received.
Q. What method of payment is accepted if I submit my order electronically?
A. If you submit your order electronically you MUST pay via credit card.
Q. What methods of payment are acceptable for group sales orders?
A. If your order is placed electronically, only credit card payments are accepted. If you placed your order with our call center, we accept money order, cashier’s check, certified company check and all major credit cards. NO PERSONAL CHECKS
Q. My group will travel by bus. Is there room?
A. Yes! Group busses will park in the bus area in our parking lot. There is a $15.00 bus parking fee which must be paid in CASH upon arrival. A receipt will be provided.
Children’s Tickets Questions
Q. Do I need to purchase a ticket for my infant child who will sit on my lap for the entire show?
A. Children 2 and Under are admitted free provided they sit on a parent or guardian’s lap. All children 24 months old and older must have a ticket. For children two and older, ticket prices are the same for children and adults alike.
Q. Can I bring a stroller or car seat for my infant child into the show?
A. Regretfully, strollers, car seats and large diaper bags are not allowed in the arena area. The Shrine Circus provides a complimentary safe and secure “Stroller Corral” where these items can be stored during the show. You will receive a claim ticket for all checked items and are free to access the items as the need arises. The Stroller Corral is conveniently located near the entrance and adjacent to the restrooms for ease of access.
Q. Do you have special discounts for my children?
A. There are coupons available at our sponsor’s retail locations and in the newspaper which provide everyone the same savings, regardless of age. Our policy is that all customers over the age of two (2) years pay the same price. We’ve seen some pretty big 8 year old’s in the past that had mustaches and car keys. It’s just easier and fairer for everyone this way.
Q. Do you offer a discount to Military families?
A. Yes! The Shriners are very proud of the men and women serving in the U.S. Armed Forces and sincerely appreciate the sacrifices made by them and their families. As our way of saying thanks, we are pleased to provide special events and promotions for military families.
Purchases made at the show box office with valid Military ID (Active, Reserve, National Guard, Retired) or online using special promo code USVET entitles you to receive a special discount as a small token of our appreciation. All military families in attendance are recognized with a special tribute at each performance.
Non-Profit Organization Support
Q. How do I receive complimentary tickets for my non-profit organization?
A. Fax or Mail a letter to us stating the function of your organization, the city in which your organization would like to attend the show, full address and contact phone number of organization and how many tickets your organization is requesting. Requests are not to exceed a maximum of 25 tickets. Organization MUST include proof of valid 501-c3 status.

Considering the large number of requests we receive, only if your organization is receiving tickets will you be contacted. All request for tickets are only acknowledged by written request. Incomplete written request and phone request will not be considered for complimentary tickets. Organizations that have submitted a request further in advance will be contacted on a first come first serve basis.
Q. How will I receive my tickets?
A. Tickets will be mailed to your organization two weeks prior to show date, unless otherwise prior arrangements have been made in advance.
Q. If I call will this increase my chances of receiving tickets?
A. NO, ticket distribution is based on inventory and on a first come first serve basis. If your organization is selected you will be contacted.
Q. When will organizations be contacted?
A. About two weeks prior to opening day of the show Community Affairs will begin to contact organizations to inform them they will receive tickets.
General Rules, Terms and Conditions
Smoking is expressly prohibited inside any structures where our shows are staged. Designated smoking areas may be available outside, a safe distance from the structure.
Alcohol is not allowed at our Shrine Circus.
Food & Beverage Policy
Delicious food and refreshing beverages are for sale at family affordable prices. Due to health department regulations, no outside food or beverage is permitted with the exception of baby food and formula for infant children.
General Ticket Licensing Agreement
REGARDLESS OF THE AMOUNT PAID FOR THE TICKET, PAID AND COMPLIMENTARY TICKET HOLDER VOLUNTARILY ASSUMES ALL RISKS AND DANGER INCIDENTAL TO THE EVENT FOR WHICH THE TICKET IS ISSUED, WHETHER OCCURRING PRIOR TO, DURING OR AFTER THE EVENT. HOLDER VOLUNTARILY AGREES THAT THE MANAGEMENT, FACILITY, PROMOTERS, PARTICIPANTS, AND ALL OF THEIR RESPECTIVE AGENTS, OFFICERS, DIRECTORS, MEMBERS, VOLUNTEERS, CONTRACTORS, OWNERS AND EMPLOYEES ARE EXPRESSLY RELEASED BY HOLDER FROM ANY CLAIMS ARISING FROM SUCH CAUSES. The ticket is not subject to any refund and shall bear no cash value. If issued complimentary this ticket shall not be exchangeable. IN THE EVENT OF A CANCELLATION OR RESCHEDULING OF THE APPLICABLE EVENT, MANAGEMENT SHALL NOT BE REQUIRED TO ISSUE A REFUND PROVIDED THAT YOU ARE GIVEN THE RIGHT, WITHIN TWELVE MONTHS OF THE DATE OF THE ORIGINAL EVENT, TO ATTEND A RESCHEDULED PERFORMANCE OF THE SAME EVENT OR TO EXCHANGE THIS TICKET FOR A TICKET, COMPARABLE IN PRICE AND LOCATION, TO ANOTHER SIMILAR EVENT AS DESIGNATED BY MANAGEMENT EXCEPT AS OTHERWISE PROVIDED BY LAW.
Management reserves the right, without the refund of any portion of the ticket purchase price, to refuse admission to or eject any person whose conduct is deemed by management to be disorderly, who uses vulgar or abusive language or who fails to comply with these or other management rules. Breach of any of the foregoing will automatically terminate this license. NO REFUNDS. NO EXCHANGES EXCEPT AS PROVIDED HEREIN. EVENT DATE & TIME SUBJECT TO CHANGE. ALL RIGHTS RESERVED.
This ticket is a revocable license and admission may be refused upon refunding the face amount of the ticket. Unlawful resale or attempted resale is grounds for seizure and cancellation without compensation. Tickets obtained from unauthorized sources may be lost, stolen or counterfeit, and if so are void.
Holder agrees by use of this ticket, not to transmit or aid in transmitting any description, account, picture, or reproduction of the performance, exhibition or event for which this ticket is issued. Holder acknowledges that the event may be broadcast or otherwise publicized, and hereby grants permission to utilize holder’s image or likeness in connection with any live or recorded transmission or reproduction of such event. In conformance with some local requirements or certain facility rules, alcoholic beverages, illegal drugs, controlled substances, cameras, recording devices, bundles and containers of any kind may not be brought into the premises. This ticket cannot be replaced if lost, stolen or destroyed, and is valid only for the event and seat for which it is issued. This ticket is not redeemable for cash. It is unlawful to reproduce this ticket in any form. Unless indicated otherwise, prices include all applicable taxes and/or cash discounts (if available).
